Betty J. (Bigley) VanLaningham

Betty J. VanLaningham, 86, Beatrice, died Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Center.  She was born November 2, 1929 to Harvey and Florence (Andrus) Bigley. Betty lived in Crab Orchard and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1947.  She married Harold VanLaningham on May 28, 1948 at Marysville, Kansas.  Betty taught school, worked at BSDC as a ward attendant and also at the Beatrice Daily Sun as an inserter.  She loved to quilt and enjoyed playing cards, gardening, reading and birdwatching.  Betty also enjoyed her time spent babysitting at the bowling alley.

Betty is survived by her husband; daughter, Peggy Redl and husband Alex of Beatrice; sons, Mike and wife Carolyn of Tecumseh, NE, Danny and wife Karen of Beatrice; grandchildren, Donovan Redl and wife Rebecca of McCook, NE, Troy Redl and wife Robrenna of Lincoln, NE, Dana Jensen and husband Clark of Bennett,  Kevin VanLaningham of Tecumseh, Timothy VanLaningham  and fiancé Stacie Britt of Cook, Curtis VanLaningham and wife Michelle of Ogallala, Craig VanLaningham and special friend Kati Gondringer of Beatrice; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; Sisters, Barb Caldwell of Florida, Ruth Schwitzer of Omaha; Sister-in-law, Donna Belle Bigley of Crab Orchard.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Christopher VanLaningham; sister, Florence Guidacci; brother, Richard.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 23, 2015 at the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ with Pastor David Bigley, officiating.  Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery. A family prayer service will be 10:45 A.M. Monday in the church parlor. Visitation will be held at Harman-Wright Mortuary, Saturday 1:00 PM-8:00 PM, Sunday NOON-9 PM with the family greeting friends from 4:00-6:00 PM    A memorial is established to the Family’s Choice.  www.harmanwrightmortuary.com  Harman-Wright Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
