I served with Vern in the U.S. Army in Germany. He was the Command Post (CP) Chief in the Flash Platoon of C-Btry 1st Target Acquisition Battalion of the 26th Field Artillery. Vern was one of the best and sharpest soldiers I have ever known and performed his duties in an outstanding manner.
I salute you Vern! You will remain in my memory for all time.
Rest in peace my good friend!

It was with great sadness, that I heard of Vern's passing. I served with Vern in Aschaffenburg, Germany. We were room mates up until the time I left in July of 1962. I'm sure the Good Lord has a very special place for this Good Man.

Vern was one of my very best Army buddies when we served together in Germany in the 1/26 artillery (target acquisition). Vern got there a few months before me and when I arrived we became the best of friends. We both got extended during the Berlin wall crisis as did all bachelor RA's (regular army) and we wound spending almost 32 months away from family and friends. We went on leaves together along with our buddy Val Gonzales. On our way back from Rome we stopped along the Italian Riviera and Vern being a fair skinned guy, he got so sun burned he was miserable for the rest of our leave, and he was so worried he was going to get in trouble when we got back because he was afraid he could not get his fatigues on. Down through the years we have met many times with him and Shirley at our Army reunions. Betty and I are going to miss him. RIP ole buddy.

Wow, I'm so sorry to the family.. Vern was an inspiration to me way back when I learned to water ski at Rockford lake shortly after its beginnings. Him and his Buddy Dean spent time and effort to get me started.. He's been a sweetheart in my thoughts all my life... RIP Vern...

I am so sorry to hear about Vern's passing. He was a great man. I remember all the times that he would be around on the construction sites. Vern had his business side...and his fun side. Vern's fun side could get me laughing when no one could. Usually, because he was giving the other guys a hard time. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word. You will be missed, Vern. My heart breaks for Vern's family. You will be in my prayers.
