Wanda Mae (Hansen) Spier

March 11, 1931 ~ January 3, 2016 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Wanda Mae (Hansen) Spier, 84, Fairbury formerly of Beatrice depart this life Sunday, January 03, 2016 at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury. She was born March 11, 1931 at Wymore, NE to Loyd A. and Nina B. (Miller) Hansen.  She was the fifth child born to this marriage. Wanda was united in marriage to Ronald A. Spier Sr. July 30, 1949 in the Methodist Church in Pawnee City, NE. To this union four children were born.

Wanda lived most of her life in Gage and Pawnee counties.  She and her Husband moved to Olathe, KS in Aug. of 1985. After her husband passed away Jan. 22, 1988, she moved back to Beatrice in Aug. 1988 to the home she and Ronald Sr. had shared.  While living in Olathe she worked at the God Samaritan Center in the activity and therapy dept., then became in charge of the therapy dept.  Wanda took her training at the St. Luke Hospital in Kansas City, MO.  She also worked at Hesteds, Gambles, Planks nursing home, Beatrice State Developmental Center, Beatrice Good Samaritan Center, 13 years for the Beatrice Community Hospital, baby sitting and worked in personnel nursing care. Wanda enjoyed caring and doing things for other people.

Wanda held many offices in P.T.A. and was a life member.  She was a member of the National Campers and Hikers Assoc., American Legion Post #27 Auxiliary, Tuesday Eves Extension club, Ruth Circle of the Centenary United Methodist Church of Beatrice, where she helped in the nursery and Bible school for several years when her children were small. She did volunteer work for several different organizations. In 1989 Wanda bought a motorhome and enjoyed going camping with her children and their family and friends.  She loved to work in her flower garden, doing the yard work, sewing and crocheting afghans.

Her favorite Bible verse was John 3-16; for God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son that who so ever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

She leaves to morn a daughter, Jeanet M. (Spier) Lawson and special friend Scotty of Fullerton, CA; sons, Ronald A. Spier Jr. of Beatrice, NE, Lt. Carl L. Spier and wife Patricia of Hot Springs, SD; daughter, Rosena M. (Spier) Hill and husband Dale of Fairbury, NE; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; nieces; nephews & cousins.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Loyd and Nina (Miller) Hansen; husband, Ronald Spier, Sr.; sister, Zelma Hansen; brothers, George, Alvin, Raymond, Melvin, and Harold; fiancée, Mike Ullman.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Harman-Wright Mortuary Chapel in Beatrice with Rev. Dale Hill officiating.  Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday at the Mortuary. Memorials are established to Centenary United Methodist Church, the Muscular Dystrophy Assoc. or the Lupus Foundation with mortuary in charge. www.harmanwrightmortuary.com.
