While trying to think of something both heartfelt and appropriate to say about Jane White's life, I came across an article by K. Manion in the Nebraska City Press online. It is perfect. You could tell that he knew Jane, that he paid attention to her and to her life, and his story is the greatest tribute anyone could give her. Jane, you were universally loved and appreciated.

I was probably in my late teens before I learned that Jane and I were not related. The Whites and the Youngs were such good friends, from at least the time of our grandparents. Whenever our family was near Ellis, we stopped in to visit Roland and Peg. I remember how delighted they were with their so-much-wanted baby girl. They were such a fine family. My parents (Kenny and Florence Young) followed Jane's career from its beginning and never failed to clip the articles. Mom had entire file of Jane's work, which was exceptional. Her photographs were better than most sports photographs I've ever seen. Rest in peace, dear almost a cousin.

I knew Jane from the time she stepped on to the SCC campus in Fairbury. She had immense passion for journalism/photography and she was very good at it. Following graduation from SCC in 1985 we both went different directions but would always visit during state tournaments. She always had a trunk full of sandwiches and treats at the State Track Meet and was eager to share with her colleagues. She will be missed but thankfully never forgotten. Hopefully she can get a shout out at this year's State Track Meet, where for one brief moment she can be the focus, instead of always shining the light on others.

Jane - God blessed you with so many talents and you used them so well to serve and care for others. Among your talents were writing, taking photos, taking others under your wing, seeing the "whole picture," wanting your community (and all of those communities you wrote about and worked in were your community) and your kids (and they were all your kids who you cared about) succeed, sharing, caring, reaching out, remembering the history, knowing the history, building relationships. You were also always good at calling a spade a spade. You will be missed! But I believe God has a special place in heaven for you (and you are having a great reunion with your family .... I can only imagine the yummy treats your mom would have ready for you in heaven. Her treats were always heaven on earth!)

My fondest memory of Jane was when she played softball in high school on a team put together and coached by my son Doug. In one of the first games, a long ball was hit to left field by the batter on the opposing team. Jane was playing first and realized that both the third baseman and shortstop had gone out to receive the throw from left field. As the batter ran past first base, Jane began yelling "cover third, cover third". When there was no response, Jane took off from first base and ran straight across the pitching rubber to attempt to cover third base. I've watched a lot of softball, but that was the only time I ever saw the first baseman covering third. Even then she gave it her all.

I want to thank Jane for all the time she spent with me. I have wonderful memories of Jane playing softball with my mom. Jane's parents would sit in right field for every game Go Hair Hut!. Jane took me to at UNL Mizzou football game in about 1992 which was the first game Tommie Frazier started at quarterback, we saw Bob Devaney in the press box and sat in a traffic jam for hours on the way to Columbia. We laughed at the people walking into the woods off the interstate for a bathroom break and they had plenty of time to walk back to their car. Jane was so giving to others and really impacted my life. Thanks Jane!

Jane was a tremendous journalist and even better person. Even before we were colleagues, I met Jane at the state track meet. She was quick to offer me advice on how to photograph various events. Immediately, I could see Jane's passion and enthusiasm for journalism and helping others. This passion was contagious, because it pushed all of us to work harder and be better journalists. Jane was always the first one to provide words of encouragement and praise, which meant so much because you knew she wanted to see her colleagues succeed.

God Bless You Jane!!!!! God blessed us with your positive influence on the students/athletes in Southeast Nebraska. Jane always had a positive thing to say to students/ athletes, and cheered them on to DO THEIR BEST. Her stories on Beatrice Daily Sun Sports and then on TieDyed Sports would make you feel like you were right there at the game, and her photography was above and beyond. I have quite a few wonderful pictures that she took of my sons while they played sports at JCC. WE LOST A WONDERFUL PERSON YESTERDAY!!!! Again, God Bless You and watch over your kids in Southeast Nebraska! You will be dearly, dearly missed
