Helen Irene Hamm, 88, Beatrice, died Monday, November 16, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice. She was born May 23, 1927 in Beatrice to Aron and Helen (Wiebe) Claassen. Irene attended country school, graduated from Beatrice High School and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She married William Hamm on November 14, 1947 at the Beatrice Mennonite Church. Irene taught school in several country schools. She enjoyed ice skating in her younger years, sewing, music, and was a great cook, inviting many people to her house for dinner over the years. Irene had a great life and loved her family dearly.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years; daughters, Judy Christensen of Wilmington, DE, Janet Lubbers of Peabody, KS, and Diane Hardtarfer and husband Mike of Newton, KS; son, Jim Hamm of Beatrice; son-in-law, Donald Brandt; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, T.J. Christensen and wife Jamie and their sons, Brandon & Zachary, Patrick Christensen, Aric Brandt and wife Toni and their children, Zane, Caliber, and Graysha, Alicyn Dungan and husband Andrew, Adrian Brandt and wife Cara, LeAnna Wohlgemuth and husband Morgan and their children Gage and Cord, Anna Lubbers, Amber Randall and husband Mike and their children, Jackson and Madison.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Phyllis Brandt.
Memorial Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 20, 2015 at the First Mennonite Church, rural Beatrice with Pastor Brett Klingenberg officiating. Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday in the First Mennonite Cemetery, rural Beatrice. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Harman-Wright Mortuary with the family greeting friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening.
