Howard Dean Bay, 66 years of age, of Beatrice, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice. He was born on February 4, 1949 in Beatrice to Richard and Delores (Howsden) Bay of Filley. Howard spent his childhood on a farm east of Filley and graduated from Filley High School in 1967. Upon high school graduation, Howard attended Southeast Community College in Milford from 1967 – 1969 and graduated with a degree in welding. After graduation, Howard enlisted in the United States Marine Corps from 1969 to 1971, being honorably discharged in California at Treasure Island. In 1975 he enlisted in the Army Reserves, retiring in 1998. On September 28, 1973 he married Linda Howard in Marysville, Kansas; from this union they were blessed with two children, Laurence and Amanda Bay. In January 1974 he began employment with Southeast Community College working at the Nebraska Department of Corrections. In 1991 he started teaching welding at the Lincoln campus before transferring to the Milford campus in 1996. During his welding career, Howard used his expertise in customized training for local industries.
Howard is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Laurence; daughter, Amanda Schaefer and husband Jered, all of Beatrice; granddaughter, Caitlin Schaefer; sister-in-law, Barbara (Howard) Bangert and husband Scott of Topeka; brother-in-law, David Howard and wife Theresa and family of York; niece, Nichole Jelinek and husband Jon and their family of Waverly; 4 nephews, Kenneth and Thomas Bangert of Topeka, Sean Howard of Crawford, Eric Howard of York; and many friends and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Rev. David Bigley officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM with family greeting friends from 6 to 7 PM Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. A memorial is established to the family’s choice in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
