William "Bill" James Kagy

William “Bill” J. Kagy, 53 years of age, Virginia, NE passed away Monday, May 31, 2021, at home. He was born on October 2, 1962, in Beatrice to Phillip Sr. and Mildred (Stevens) Kagy. Bill graduated from Lewiston Consolidated School in 1985. He married Paula Hackbarth in 1989 and together welcomed his oldest son, Brandon in 1990, they later divorced. Bill had two more sons in 1993, Skylar and Devon. He married Melodee Ruring in 2001. He worked various constructions jobs over the years but spent the last 20 years working with his brother Dave, erecting pole buildings in Southeast Nebraska.

Bill was a skilled carpenter and generously donated his talent to those in need. He helped his family, friends, and often times strangers by lending a hand at roofing, home repairs, etc. Bill enjoyed all things outdoors including fishing, boating, camping, gardening, and hunting especially when spent with his siblings and children. His heart was most full with the arrival of his first grandchild born September 2020, Millie Phyllis Kagy “Suki, as grandpa called her”.

Bill is survived by his sons, Skylar of Lincoln, Devon and his fiancé Brianna Barker and their daughter Millie of Fairbury; stepchildren Meg (Shon) of Unadilla, James (Lacey) Robinson of South Sioux City, step-grandchildren; JJ, Cody, and Shelby; siblings, David Kagy and wife Buffy of Beatrice, Casey Kagy of Colorado, Teresa Kagy of Beatrice, and Tanya Kagy of Beatrice; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife Melodee (Feb. 27, 2021), son, Brandon S. Kagy (2008), father, Phillip Sr., (1999), mother, Mildred (2014), brother, George (2020), and nephew, Damon Swarthout (2014).

No visitation, cremation has taken place. Inurnment Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, June 11, 2021, at the Brethren Cemetery, Holmesville, NE, with Sharon Schuster officiating. Following the committal service at the cemetery, a gathering will be held. A guestbook is available online at www.harmanwrightmortuary.com. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice with the mortuary in charge. Arrangements are entrusted to Harman-Wright Mortuary & Crematory in Beatrice.
