Walter Vitosh Obituary

Walter J. Vitosh, 91 years of age, of Beatrice passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice. He was born on January 12, 1932 at Odell to Joseph and Rose (Bures) Vitosh. Walt attended Friendship Grade School north of Odell and graduated from Odell High School in 1949. He married Beverly Glathar on February 4, 1952 in Beatrice. Walt farmed and raised cattle north of Odell. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from September 10, 1952 to June 10, 1954. Walt and Bev owned Walt and Bev’s Liquor Store in Wymore during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. He was a member of Armstrong-Wasserman Post #231 of the American Legion in Odell, the VFW and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #531 in Beatrice. Walt farmed 40 years in the Odell area and served on a number of boards including the Sicily Township Board, Odell Board of Education, Odell Coop Elevator Board and the Odell Czech Cemetery Board. He enjoyed playing the sports of baseball and basketball, coaching the young boys and girls in baseball and softball and then watching his grandchildren play sports. In later years, he enjoyed bowling, fishing and gardening.

Walt is survived by his daughters, Jeanne Lytle and husband Pat, Kathryn Schnuelle and husband Doug; daughter-in-law, Jeanette Vitosh, all of Beatrice; grandchildren, Chad Jurgens and wife Jill, Shawn Jurgens and wife Angie, Anthony Schnuelle and wife Tami, Ashley Hawks, Chandra Vitosh, Amanda McLean and husband Chance, Jamie O’Connor and husband Joe, Kalynn Fritzen and husband Jeff, Abbie Lanke and husband Ryan; 20 great grandchildren; brother, Arnie Vitosh and wife Judy of Odell; sister, Lorraine Bates of Omaha; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Vitosh of Odell, Bernice Vitosh of Beatrice; brother-in-law, John Marshall of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly on May18, 2023; son, Terry Vitosh; sister, Maxine Marshall; brothers, Melvin Vitosh and wife Lylah, LeRoy Vitosh, Larry Vitosh, Gary Vitosh; sister-in-law, Shirley Beran and husband Vernon; and brother-in-law, Lou Bates.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, September 25, 2023 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Pastor Hollis Patterson officiating. Interment with military rites by the Nebraska Army National Guard Honor Guard and Armstrong-Wasserman Post #231 of the American Legion will follow in the Odell Czech Cemetery north of Odell. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 PM Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family’s choice in care of the mortuary.
