Russell "Bob" Robert Smith

Russell “Bob” Robert Smith, 78 years of age, of Beatrice passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023. He was born on November 4, 1945 in Benton, Iowa to Russell and Mildred (Kimball) Smith. Bob married Carolyn Spencer on October 20, 1962 in Coos Bay, Oregon. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1970 where he served on the USS Randolph and USS Enterprise. After his time in the Navy, Bob returned and worked in roofing, truck driving, at Petersen Manufacturing and delivering papers for the Beatrice Daily Sun. He was a past member of the VFW and Fraternal Order of Eagle’s Aerie #531. Bob enjoyed racing, fishing, outdoors, working on vehicles, hunting, western movies and especially time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his wife, Carolyn, son, Russell Smith and wife Kari; daughters, Kim Brown and husband Randy, Dawn Young and significant other, Mark Mohr, all of Beatrice; grandchildren, Aaron Smith and wife Ashley, Russell Smith and wife Vanessa, Cara Little and husband Jeremy, Klynne Neher and husband Isaac, Shelby McMurray and husband Clark, Edward Smith, Amber Young, Rebecca Young and fiancé Erich Hardenburger, Joshua Young and fiancée Morgan Aquilano, Justin Brown, Jackie Brown and significant other Adam Fielder, Jennifer Brown and fiancé Kaleb Theasmeyer; 17 great grandchildren; sister, Pat Howell of Iowa; brother-in-law, Gary Morrison of Oregon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rebekkah Smith; grandson, Manuel Neher; brothers, James Stanley and wife Evelyn, Jack Stanley; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Howell, Donald Spencer and wife Hazel, Thomas Spencer and wife Darlene; and sisters-in-law, Florence Morrison and Vonnie Spencer.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, December 4, 2023 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Pastor David Bigley officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Oak Grove Cemetery near DeWitt. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary & Crematory in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
