Richard Vogel

Richard Vogel, 94 years of age, of Beatrice passed away, Friday, December 20, 2019 at Beatrice Good Samaritan Society.  He was born on July 29, 1925 in Bridgeport, NE to Jacob and Amelia (Deines) Vogel. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1945 and later joined the U.S. Air Force retiring in 1970 as Master Sgt. Richard married Phyllis Deines on April 25, 1949 in Wibaux, MT. Richard and Phyllis and eventually their children traveled all over the world while Richard was in the United States Air Force. In 1973, the family moved to Beatrice from Hutchinson, Kansas. He was the head of the dietary dept. at Beatrice Community Hospital from 1973 to 1986. He worked part time at the Homestead Village for 11 years. Richard and Phyllis had a lot of memories from spending so much time with their friends at the VFW and American Legion. He loved bowling, golfing, sitting outside watching hummingbirds and especially spending time with his family and grandchildren. Richard was a member of the V.F.W. post 1077 and the Bitting-Norman American Legion post 27, where he enjoyed volunteering and cooking.

Survivors include his daughters, Penny Vogel  of Beatrice and Dixie Amatruda of Waterbury, CT; son, Rick Vogel and wife Theresa of Beatrice; grandchildren, Chris Amatruda and wife Nadine, Ryan Vogel and wife Angie, Brandie Waldron and husband Jake, Shane Diekman and special friend Amber Beekman and daughter Mady, Nathan Diekman and wife Trisha; Lucy, Liam, Kayleigh, Lucas, Troy, Stefanie, Gabriel, Aidan, and Gianna; sisters, Nadine Schledewitz (Wilbert) of Gering, NE, Jurene Turpin of Twin Falls, ID, Janice Henkel of Walnut Creek, CA, Sandra Jines of Meza, AZ, and Betty Duncan (Robert) of Bayard, NE; brothers, Robert Vogel (Shirley) of Alliance, NE, Howard Vogel (Shirley) of Gering, NE; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis; sisters, Benita, Dorothy and Helen; brothers, Edward, Leonard, Donald, Delbert and Elwood.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at Harman-Wright Mortuary Chapel in Beatrice with Pastor Doyle Karst officiating. Visitation will be 12:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 23, 2019 at Harman-Wright Mortuary. Burial will be in Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice.  A memorial is established to the Veteran’s Club in Beatrice.  A guestbook is available at www.harmanwrightmortuary.com Harman-Wright Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
