Raymond Thomsen departed this life on Thursday, December 3rd, 2020, at his home in Lincoln. He is the son of John and Maria (Thomsen) Thomsen. Raymond was born January 9, 1925 at Filley, Nebraska, and was baptized on November 1925 at Filley United Methodist Church. He was raised on a farm and graduated from Filley High School in 1942 and was part of the Class C State Baseball Championship team. Raymond married Lorene Wagner on December 23rd, 1945. They farmed in the Filley, Wilber, Blue Springs, and Diller areas. Born to this union were three daughters, Linda, Joyce, and Lori. In 1972, Ray and Lorene moved to Cortland, Nebraska. Ray worked at the Nebraska Department of Roads for seventeen years. He enjoyed farming and feeding livestock, loved playing baseball, men’s softball, and golf, enjoyed watching all sports, was an avid Husker Fan and season ticket holder for over 50 years. Ray also coached the Cortland girls’ softball team for twelve years. He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice and Cortland Masonic Lodge. After the death of his first wife, Lorene, Ray married Magdalene “Peg” Hahn on June 15th, 1984 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Johnson, Nebraska. Together they lived in Cortland, Beatrice and Lincoln, Nebraska. Ray loved his family and extended family very much.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lorene, daughter, Joyce Nippert and her husband, David, sister, Verna Mae Ewald, brothers, Julian, and Harold Thomsen.
He is survived by his wife, Magdalene “Peg”, daughters, Linda Hodges, Lori (Kent) Oelling, step sons, Michael (Patrice) Hahn , Myron (Sheila) Hahn, 5 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, brother, Marvin Thomsen, sister, Marjory Albers, many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Harman-Wright Mortuary Chapel in Beatrice. Husker attire is encouraged for the service. Social distancing will be observed, and masks are required. If you would like to watch Raymond’s service, it will be livestreamed on Harman-Wright Mortuary’s Facebook page. A private graveside service will be in the Cortland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until 8:00 PM, Monday, December 14, 2020 at the mortuary.
