Penny L. (Kinaman) Downes

Penny L. (Kinaman) Downes, 75 years of age, of Beatrice passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center. She was born in Beatrice to Robert Sr. and Aneita (Rhoads) Kinaman. Penny attended Beatrice High School. She married Walter “Butch” Hackbarth and they later divorced. Penny was a caregiver that loved taking care of people and worked many places in home health, including owning Tender Loving Care during her time in Connecticut. Later in life, she married Arthur Downes. Penny was a member of Christ Community Church and enjoyed animals, her cats, crossword puzzles, word searches and especially time with family and friends.

Penny is survived by her daughter, Paula Bush of Odell; son, Greg Hackbarth and wife Julie of Colleyville, Texas; grandchildren, Mia, Alec, Harrison, Molly Kate; great grandchild, Oliver; sister, Bonnie Jo Felt and husband Glen of Friend; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur; grandson, Brandon Kagy; brother, Robert Kinaman Jr and wife Diane; sister, Bette Kemper and husband Harold “Kemp”; infant sister, Janeen Kinaman; and nephew, Kip Kinaman.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 9, 2025 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Chaplain Sharon Schuster officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary & Crematory in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
