Neil Harvey Dunker, 74, died at his home in Beatrice on Monday, November 4.
Neil was born July 31, 1950 to Harvey and Betty Dunker in St. Louis, Missouri. After high school, Neil graduated from Doane College in Crete where he competed in cross country and track and field. At Doane, he met Beth Jenkins, and the two married on July 28, 1973 in Omaha, and later moved to Beatrice.
Neil worked at the Beatrice State Developmental Center and Martin Luther Home, and later for Store Kraft and Sampson Construction. He loved dogs, old movies and TV shows, complaining about the government and other things, gossiping about town, and talking about his grandkids, Cecilia and Henry.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Neil is survived by his wife of 51 years, Beth; son Christopher and wife, Tara, and grandchildren Cecilia and Henry, all of Lincoln; son Matthew of Beatrice; sister Susan and husband Rich of Stuart, Florida; sister-in-law Kathy Minikus and husband, Wayne, of Omaha; several nieces and nephews; and dog, Charlie, who misses him dearly.
Neil was cremated per his wishes and a family inurnment has taken place at Evergreen Home Cemetery.
The family will receive friends and well-wishers at Harman-Wright Mortuary at 623 Elk St. in Beatrice from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12. A register book will be available at the mortuary that day for those who cannot attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Beatrice Humane Society in Neil’s name.
