Morris "Dean" Shuck

Morris “Dean” Shuck, 93 years of age, of Beatrice passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice. He was born on September 14, 1931 in Franklin to Ora and Margaret (Yearka) Shuck. Dean graduated from Cowels High School in 1949. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956 where he was stationed in the United States, Korea and Japan. Dean married Sharon Henderson on June 3, 1956 and they later divorced. He married Aladean “Smitty” (Schmit) Goracke Puchalla on July 14, 1973. Dean retired after 41 years as a Depot Agent for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, American Legion, VFW and the Eagle’s. Dean enjoyed many things in life. He truly enjoyed putting his somewhat quirky/weird humor to good use whenever the situation presented itself.  (Which presented itself at least every other sentence according to Dean) LOL!! He also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, coffee at the Senior Center, word searches, dancing, playing the harmonica and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

Dean is survived by his wife, Aladean; children, Gary Shuck and significant other Sandy Ewaskowitz of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Kirk Shuck and wife Julie of Doniphan, Brenda Hoyer and husband Gene of Sibley, Iowa, Dianne Johnson and husband Wes of Leawood, Kansas, Don Goracke and wife Teresa of Burr, Shirley White of Beatrice, Pauline Messman and husband Darrell of Beatrice, Tom Goracke and wife Nancy of Crawford, Tim Goracke and wife Rachel of Beatrice, Joleen Wrightsman and husband Brian of Beatrice; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Kenny Shuck, Diane Rhoden and husband Tony; son-in-law, Ron White; grandchildren, Bailey Hoyer, Zachary Johnson; infant great grandchildren; 4 sisters; 2 brothers; 3 brothers-in-law; and 1 sister-in-law.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, May 19, 2025 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice with Rev. Dr. Paixao Baptista officiating. Interment with military rites by the United States Air Force Honor Guard and Bitting-Norman Post #27 of the American Legion will follow in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Beatrice. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 AM Monday in the church parlor. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice from 2 to 8 PM with family greeting friends from 4 to 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family’s choice in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary & Crematory in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
