Melvin L. Dorf, Sr.

Melvin L. Dorf, Sr., 83 years of age, of Burchard passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. He was born on January 12, 1941 in Kaw City, Oklahoma to Donald and Viola (Houston) Dorf. Melvin grew up on the family farm and spent the majority of his life there. He graduated from Lewiston Consolidated Schools in 1960. Melvin married Karen Sargent on December 4, 1965 and to this union were born two children. They later divorced. He served his country in the United States Army from November 27, 1963 to November 12, 1965. Melvin spent the majority of his working life driving a truck and farming, especially after retirement. He married Virginia Wendover on June 12, 1999 in Burchard. Melvin was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Filley and the Fisher Post #367 of the American Legion. He loved people and enjoyed the sale barn in Marysville, traveling, socializing at church and the Coop, feeding livestock, his dogs, the weather channel, asking people to wrestle and especially time with his grandchildren.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Virginia; daughter, Kristi Dorf of Sparks, Nevada; son, Melvin Dorf, Jr. and wife Donita of Beatrice; grandchildren, Trey Brewer and wife Megan of Beatrice, Emily Norris and husband Michael of Lincoln, Elizabeth Rubin and husband Daniel of Blair, Katie Mohr and husband Alex of Genoa; and great grandchildren, Dean, Lilah, Hudson and Jameson. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 Thursday, May 30, 2024 at American Lutheran Church in Filley with Pastor Jonathan Jensen officiating. Interment with military rites by the Army National Guard Honor Guard and Fisher Post #367 of the American Legion will follow in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice from 2 to 8 PM with family greeting friends from 6 to 7 PM. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary & Crematory in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
