Mary Lou (Cottam) Brake, 79 years of age, of Beatrice passed away Monday, February 10, 2020 at CHI Health Nebraska Heart in Lincoln. She was born on August 2, 1940 in Hubbell to Vergil and Edith (Vaughn) Cottam. Mary Lou graduated from Narka High School in Narka, Kansas in 1958. She married Gerald “Jerry” Brake on August 16, 1959 in Narka, Kansas. Mary Lou moved to Beatrice in 1961 and worked at Grandma’s Fruitcake, Coopers Feed Mill and Cable TV. The last 13 years, she had been babysitting for family and friends in her home. Mary Lou enjoyed friends and family, golfing, fishing and making personalized ornate Christmas stockings for family and friends.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Jerry; daughter, Jana Seibert and husband Marvin of DeWitt; son, J.D. Brake and wife Alison of Nebraska City; 5 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Wanda White and husband Robert of Topeka; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother; and 1 sister.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Beatrice with Pastor Kathee Forrest officiating. Casual dress is requested. There will be no viewing but a register book will be available to sign from 9 AM to 8 PM Friday, February 14, 2020 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
