Marilyn Hammond Obituary

Marilyn R. (Dorn) Hammond, 88 years of age, of Wilber passed away on Monday, June 8, 2026 at the Wilber Care Center in Wilber. She was born on July 9, 1937 to Harm and Hanna (Agena) Dorn on a farm near Elk Creek where she lived as a young child and started her schooling. Marilyn was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Tecumseh and confirmed at the American Lutheran Church of Filley. She grew up in the Filley area and graduated from Filley High School in 1955. Marilyn taught rural schools in Gage and Johnson counties. She was married to Charley Hammond on December 21, 1959 in Syracuse. They lived in Loup City, St. Paul and the Grand Island area where she continued teaching and in 1976 graduated from Kearney state college. Marilyn moved to Beatrice in 1982. She was a member of Church of Christ in Beatrice and enjoyed sewing, playing cards, watching game shows, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Debra Hoadley and fiancé Alan Sims of Lincoln; granddaughters, Sheena Hammond of Blue Springs, Megan Peck and husband Cody of Virginia, Britney Scott and husband Jeff of Blue Springs; grandson, Andrew Hammond and fiancée Heather Smith of Ogallala; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charley on July 6, 2015; daughter, Cathy Becker; sister, Irene Baehr and husband Ernest; and an infant son.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, June 12, 2026 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Pastor Travis Panning officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Highland Cemetery in Adams. There will be no visitation but a register book will be available to sign from 9 AM to 5 PM Thursday, June 11, 2026 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary & Crematory in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
