Mariane Elizabeth (Barnes) Young Noakes passed away Sunday, October 26th, 2025, at the age of 101. She was born April 12, 1924, in Upland California to Thomas C. and Elizabeth M. Barnes. She graduated from Ventura California High School in Ventura, California and attended Ventura Junior College. She married Charles D. Young of Filley, Nebraska, in April 1943, during World War II and spent the rest of her life in Filley.
Mariane worked as a clerk in the Filley Post Office for 25 years and then as Postmaster for 5 years. After 45 years of marriage, Charles passed away in October 1988. In 1998, she married Don B. Noakes who passed away in 2012.
She is survived by her son Tom (Jane) Young of Filley, daughters Judith (George) Eychner of Kerrville, Texas, and Patricia Palombi of Jacksonville, Florida, stepdaughter Kim (Rick) Behrens of Lincoln, NE, 8 grandchildren, Scott (Tanya) Eychner, Brad (Jonelle) Eychner, Susan (Duke) Daniel, Jeffery Canup, Leigh Canup, Jessica Young, Marcy (Jody) Illies, and Andrew (Christine) Young, 2 step grandchildren Eric (Aaron) Behrens and Sarah (Brandon) Bray. She is also survived by 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mariane was a long-time member of the Filley United Methodist Church until it closed and then a member of the Filley Heartland Community Church. She loved her yard and flowers and spent countless hours making it a beautiful corner of the world. She was a loyal Nebraska Huskers fan – both for volleyball and football and some of her favorite times were watching games with her grandkids. She was an avid reader of books, and she read every newspaper from cover to cover. She also read the Bible completely thru 3 times.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Charles Young, her second husband Don Noakes, her parents and five brothers all from California, stepson Dee Noakes and son-in-law John Palombi.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the Harman-Wright Chapel in Beatrice with Chaplain Sharon Schuster officiating. Visitation will be from noon-8 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2025, with family greeting friends from 3-5 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment will follow services at the Filley Cemetery followed by lunch at American Lutheran Church in Filley. Memorial contributions may be given to the Filley Cemetery with the mortuary in charge.
