Leslie "Les" G. Janssen

Leslie “Les” G. Janssen, 69 years of age, of Virginia passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln. He was born on August 19, 1953 in Beatrice to Henry and Arene (Hippen) Janssen. Les married Ellen Smoker on February 8, 1975 in Filley. He was a farmer and welder all of his life and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice. Les enjoyed farming, welding, basketball, baseball and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

Les is survived by his wife, Ellen; daughter, Crystal Workman and husband Charles of Darien, Illinois; son, Mitchell Janssen and wife Rebecca of Virginia; grandchildren, Madeline, Brock, Jameson and Nolan Janssen, McKenna and Braeden Workman; brother, Steven Janssen and wife Angela of Virginia; sisters-in-law, Clara Janssen of Seward, Rita Smoker of Kansas; 2 sisters-in-law; brother-in-law, Guy Smoker; and nieces,  nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Norman Janssen; 2 sisters-in-law; and brother-in-law, Russell Smoker.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 20, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice with Pastor Arden Dorn officiating. The service will be live streamed on the church’s facebook page. A family prayer service will be held at 10:30 AM Monday in the church chapel. Prior private family inurnment will be in the Filley Cemetery south of Filley. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary & Crematory in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
