L. Donald Wanek, M.D.

L. Donald Wanek, M.D., 88 years of age, of Wilber, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021. He was born on January 22, 1933 in Western, Nebraska to Leon and Lillian (Vesely) Wanek. Donald graduated from Wilber High School in Wilber, Nebraska and earned his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1958. Donald served his country in the United States Air Force from September 11, 1959 to September 10, 1961. He married Christine (Weisenburger) Lind on May 7, 1970 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Donald was in family practice in Medford, Oregon for 35 years. He was President of the Jackson County Family Physicians and a member of the Elks Lodge in Medford, Oregon and the American Legion Post #101 in Wilber, Nebraska. Donald enjoyed traveling, Nebraska football and especially spending time with family.

Donald is survived by his wife, Christine; children, Lisa Scarcelli and husband Perry of Washington State, Donald L.V. Wanek and wife Sarah of Bend, Oregon, Kevin Wanek of Kramer, Nebraska; son-in-law, Dr. Nick Sgaglione of Old Brookville, New York; 7 grandchildren; aunt, Chloe Mundil of Wilber, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Dr. K. Bruce Lancaster; and sister-in-law, Becky Turnmire and husband Terry, both of Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Leslie Sgaglione; and sister, Lila Klasek and husband Chuck.

Private family graveside services will be held in the Wilber Czech Cemetery near Wilber, Nebraska with Pastor Jim Helgren officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Post #101, PO Box 1052, Wilber, NE 68465. Harman-Wright Mortuary & Crematory in Beatrice, Nebraska in charge of arrangements.
