Guilford Ray Wiemers

Guilford Ray Wiemers, age 94, of Diller, Nebraska passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026. 

Guilford Ray Wiemers was born to William Garold and Lana Katharine (Lottman) Wiemers on September 10, 1931 in Odell, Nebraska. He graduated from Diller High School in 1949. He continued to work on the family farm after high school but, despite being the fastest corn shucker in Jefferson county, he decided to join the Army during the Korean War where he rose to the level of 2nd Lieutenant after Officer Training School.  

After the Army, Guilford took advantage of the GI Bill.  He went to Midland College in Fremont, NE and then transferred to Kearney College where he took every business class they had. His first day at Kearney he met a girl named Ardyce and knew right away she was the one.  He married Ardyce (Pinky) Carroll in 1958, celebrating 62 years of marriage before she passed in 2020. He was a great dad to three children: Susanne Carroll; Robert William; and Michael Ray.

Guilford’s career was built around the credit field. He started at the credit counter at a department store called GEM in Denver. It was there, in the fledging credit industry, that Gil found his niche. From GEM he went to General Electric and then on to JCPenney, where his career soared. His career took the family from Denver, CO to: Prairie Village, KS; Poolesville, MD; Marietta, GA; Burnsville, MN; Overland Park, KS; Lincroft, NJ and Plano, TX. Guilford would usually go ahead to the new job and Ardyce would bring up the rear. They were a team in everything they did. Guilford retired from JCPenney as Credit Operations Director, a department he spent the majority of his career building.

Guilford, known as Gil to his family and friends, was involved in community and church affairs everywhere he lived. He was Financial Secretary for churches and Council President at Resurrection Lutheran in Plano, TX.

Upon their retirement, Gil and Pink traveled in their motorhome and also enjoyed ocean cruising with friends. Together they enjoyed their family in Texas and New Jersey as well as their extended family, most of whom live in Nebraska.

He is survived by 3 children: his daughter, Susanne Grajek and husband Paul; his son Robert and wife Tina; and his son Michael and wife Cindy.  He is survived by his 8 grandchildren, Shane Wiemers and his fiancée Susan Big Spring; Matthew Grajek and his wife Kaitlyn; Lauren Grajek; and Michael Grajek and his wife Kristin; Alan Wiemers; Samuel Wiemers; Daniel Wiemers and his wife Ashley; and Sadie Wiemers. He is survived by 2 great granddaughters: Leonora and Marcella.  He is survived by 5 siblings: Rev. Delmar Wiemers and wife Phyllis of Diller; Joyce Oltman of Yardley, PA; Gene Wiemers of Omaha, NE; Gary Wiemers and wife Barbara of McCook, NE; and Eldon Wiemers of North Platte, NE.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ardyce Wiemers; parents, William and Lana Wiemers; his sisters, Loretta Barber and JoAnn Miller, brothers-in-law, Dale Oltman, Kenny Barber and Guy Miller and sisters-in-law Delores Wiemers and Mary Wiemers.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27th at 11:00 at the church where Guilford was baptized, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Diller, NE.  Following the service, interment will be held for both Guilford and Ardyce at Prairie Home Cemetery in Diller, NE.
