Gladys Elizabeth (McKinney) Baete

Gladys Elizabeth Baete, 92, of Beatrice, died Monday, February 14, 2022, at the Beatrice Community Hospital. She was born April 2, 1929 at Lansing, Kansas to Charles Wesley and Sara Jane (Wiseman) McKinney. Gladys attended school in Wymore and Beatrice. She attended and was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beatrice. On December 31, 1945, she was united in marriage to Maurice Francis Baete Sr. To this union four children, Maurice Jr., Joan, Ron, and Wes were born. The couple raised their family in Beatrice where Gladys worked at Swift’s, Good Samaritan Home and Beatrice Manor. She was affectionately known to her grandchildren as “Gimme Sugar”. Gladys loved her family, playing Bingo and cards. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Gladys is survived by her daughter, Joan Loseman of Beatrice; sons, Ron Baete and wife Karen of Lincoln, Wes Baete, Sr. of Beatrice; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Lafayette McKinney of California; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Maurice Sr; son, Maurice Jr.; grandson, Wes Baete Jr.; great-grandson, Austin Loseman; three brothers; and two sisters.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday February 17, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Joseph Faulkner, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m Wednesday, February 16, 2022. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N Michigan Avenue Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
