Ella Klaus Obituary

Ella Klaus died on November 19, 2023 at Beatrice Community Hospital.  Ella was born January 29, 1928 to Frank and Vlasta Pavlik on a farm east of Diller, Nebraska.  When she was one month old, the family moved to a farm northeast of Odell, Nebraska where she lived for 19 years.  She attended Plain View Country School for 5 years and throughout her life had happy memories of her country school.  In the 6th grade, when her older brother and sister began high school, she transferred to the Odell Public Schools and graduated from Odell High in 1944.  She taught country school for two years.  In 1946 she became employed as an operator at the Telephone Company in Beatrice, Nebraska where she worked until her marriage.

On April 27, 1947, she was married to Everett Klaus.  They lived their entire married life in Beatrice except for two years (1949-1951) when her husband was transferred to Hebron, Nebraska by Wilke Baking Co.  Ella worked as a proofreader for the Beatrice Daily Sun for one year after their marriage and then left the work force as they began their family.  Two sons, Alan Dale and Daniel Everett were born to their union in 1949 and 1954.

In December of 1947, Ella became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Beatrice where she was confirmed and baptized at the same time.  Faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was a sustaining force in her life through her subsequent years.  Ella was a member of the St. Paul Dorcas Sociate, Lois & Ruth Circles of the LWML, and St. Paul Parent Teacher League (“PTL”).  She taught Sunday School for several years and attended adult bible classes.  She was a representative from St. Pual’s PTL to the Council of the Parent Teacher Association of Beatrice where she serves as Vice President and President and was awarded a Lifetime PTA Membership.

In 1964 she was employed as a medical records secretary at the Lutheran Hospital for two years, at the Beatrice Medical Group for twelve years, and then at Southeast Nebraska Surgery for twelve years.  She retired in November, 1990.

As a young girl on the farm, she dearly loved to spend time at Indian Creek which ran through the farm, walking along the banks, picking violets in the Spring, wading, swimming and fishing in the creek in the Summer, picking walnuts in the Fall, sliding on the ice in the Winter, and going with her father to watch him gather wood.  She loved books and her lifelong favorite hobby was reading.  She enjoyed going to various athletic events involving her husband, her sons and her grandchildren.  She and her husband enjoyed several card clubs for many years.

She is survived by two sons, Alan Klaus and his wife, Janene, of Kansas City and Daniel Klaus and his wife, Carol, of Lincoln, four grandchildren, Matthew (Lori) Klaus and Timothy (Heather) Klaus and Christopher (Lindsey) Klaus and Kristin Klaus Culbert, and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her sister, Evelyn McKeever of Wymore, NE.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, on September 12, 1994, by her parents, Frank and Vlasta Pavlik, by her sister, Helen Vetrovsky, and brothers, George Pavlik and Edward Pavlik, and by several in-laws.
