Eldon “Bud” L. White, 93 years of age, of Blue Springs passed away Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the Beatrice Community Hospital surrounded with family. He was born on January 21, 1931, to Leslie and Bertha (Shelly) White. Eldon joined the U.S. Marine Corps on March 30, 1949. During that time, he was awarded the Korea Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Eldon then joined the National Guard in Pueblo, Colorado where his unit was activated to Korea. Eldon was chosen to go to Japan to rebuild Sherman tanks that were damaged in the Korean War. He served as Sergeant until August 21, 1952. He was a member of the American Legion for over 70 years and received the Quilt of Valor on May 29, 2023. He owned and operated Elgin Bowling Alley and later worked for NPPD until retirement. Eldon and Janetta loved traveling to fly-in breakfasts and Oshkosh, WI for National Fly-ins. Also travelled to Neligh, NE; O’Neill, NE; Hartville, MO and to visit family and friends. Eldon enjoyed camping, going to the races, playing pitch, cruising, cooking and spending time with family. In his spare time, he was a private pilot.
Eldon is survived by his fiancé of over 30 years Janetta Frerichs of Blue Springs. He considered her children as his extended family and called them his own. Step-daughters: Judy Jochum (Bill) of Lincoln, Linda Smith (Steve) of Lincoln, Janet Rule (Clinton) of Liberty, step-sons: Ron Frerichs (Diana) of Wymore, Elroy Frerichs (Julie) of Hartville, MO; his brother David White (Rita) of Lincoln, his sister Becky Picolet of Wamego, KS; Karen Collins of Indio, CA; brother-in-law Fred Gritz, sister-in-law Norma White of Huntington, CA; daughter-in-law Donna White of rural Liberty, NE; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Lou (Kuntz) White; son Richard White; sisters: Mary (Don) Scheele, Verna Clements, Betty Gritz; brothers Sam and Leslie White, and nephew Matthew White.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Chaplain Sharon Schuster officiating. Interment with military rites by the Nebraska Army National Honor Guard will be at 2:00 PM at the Highland Center Cemetery in rural Cortland. Family will greet friends at visitation from 6 PM to 8 PM Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice in care of the mortuary.
