Donald “Don” L. Brandt, 79 years of age, of Beatrice, formerly Plymouth passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, January 9, 2026 at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice. He was born on July 2, 1946 in Beatrice to Edwin and Meta (Meyer) Brandt. Don attended Immanuel Lutheran School and First Trinity Lutheran School for grade school before graduating from Plymouth High School. As a child, some of his closest friends were his siblings, neighbors and cousins. He enjoyed being involved in the Plymouth Community and playing Bingo and Pitch. Don served his country in the Nebraska Army National Guard for 6 years. He married Phyllis Hamm on June 18, 1977 at the First Mennonite Church west of Beatrice. All their married life, they lived on a farm northeast of Plymouth. He worked in various roles including as a laundry truck driver at BSDC starting in 1987. In 2020, Don moved to Samaritan Springs in Beatrice. He was a past member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Plymouth, and was a member of First Trinity Lutheran Church west of Beatrice. Don was noted for his kindness, generosity, loyalty, and thankfulness. Faith, family and farming were important priorities in Don’s life. He enjoyed raising wheat and other crops as well as livestock and poultry and would never pass down an opportunity to gather for a meal with family and friends.
Don is survived by his children, Aric Brandt and wife Toni, Alicyn Dungan and husband Andrew, both of Plymouth, Adrian Brandt and wife Cara of Lincoln; grandsons, Zane and Caliber Brandt, Beckett Dungan, Malachi, Ryker and Caden Brandt; granddaughters, Graysha Brandt, Emberly Dungan; siblings, Raymond Brandt and wife Joyce of Hastings, Harvey Brandt and wife Kathleen of Sitka, Alaska, JoAnn Wollenburg and husband Daryl of Omaha; sisters-in-law, Judy Christensen of Wilmington, Delaware, Janet Lubbers of Peabody, Kansas, Diane Hardtarfer and husband Mike of The Villages, FL, Janet Murray and husband Bob of Beatrice; brother-in-law, James Hamm of Holmesville; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis Brandt on October 4, 2009; parents-in-law, William and Irene (Claassen) Hamm; and siblings, Margie Brandt, Robert Brandt, Alida Freese and husband Leon and Richard Brandt.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 16, 2026 at First Trinity Lutheran Church west of Beatrice with Pastor Timothy Wagner officiating. The service will be live streamed on the church Facebook page. Prior interment will be held at 10:00 AM that morning in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery east of Plymouth. A family prayer service will be held at 10:45 AM in the church school building. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice from noon to 8 PM with family greeting friends from 5 to 7 PM. Memorials are suggested to the First Trinity Lutheran Church or the Orphan Grain Train in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary & Crematory in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
