Denise Larsen Obituary

Denise “Denny” Ann Shick Larsen, 58, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2018 in Beatrice, NE. She was born on September 29, 1959 in Beatrice, NE to Sylvester and Joanne Shick. She graduated from Beatrice High School in 1977. To her family and close friends she was known as Denny. She was united in marriage to Jim Larsen on November 6, 1982 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice, NE. Jim and Denny then welcomed their son Jonas Larsen in August of 1983 and daughter Sheena (Larsen) Deke in January of 1992. She was a lifelong active member of the Centenary United Methodist Church and a passionate member of the United Methodist Women. Denny worked at the Beatrice YMCA for over 30 years and held various positions during her time there. She taught an endless amount of children to swim and enjoyed teaching adult aquatic classes. Denny loved spending time with her family and friends. She especially loved spending time spoiling her two grandsons.

She is survived by husband Jim Larsen, son Jonas Larsen and wife, Jenna, of Beatrice; daughter Sheena (Larsen) Deke and husband, Jared, of Swanton; two grandsons Chace and Cole Larsen, brother Lee Shick of Omaha; sister Connie (Shick) Schroeder (Kurt), of Hickman; parents-in-law, Wayne and Verna Larsen; sister-in-law, Sandra Meints (Wes); brother-in-law Max Larsen (Anita); sister-in-law Linda Larsen; and nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by parents Sylvester and Joanne Shick.

A private family graveside service will be held at Evergreen Home Cemetery. A register book will be available from 9 AM to 8 PM with family greeting friends from 5:30 - 7:30 PM on Wednesday, July 25th at at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice, NE. A celebration of life service will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 26th at 11 a.m. with a luncheon following at the church. The family asks that everyone wear purple to the celebration of life service in honor of Denise, as that was her favorite color. Memorial funds will be given to United Methodist Woman and Josh the Otter Foundation.
