Deborah “Debby” A. Hawkins, 72 years of age, of Beatrice passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln. She was born on January 27, 1953 in Beatrice to Thomas Sr and Elizabeth (Scheele) Hawkins. Debby was a lifelong resident of Beatrice and graduated from Beatrice High School in 1971. She worked for the state of Nebraska at the University of Lincoln and BSDC for over 25 years, retiring in 1993 as a Supervisor at Large. After retirement, Debby continued to serve as a guardian for several individuals for many years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Beatrice. Debby was very independent and an avid sports fan who enjoyed the Huskers, Chiefs, riding her motorcycle years ago, traveling and George Strait.
Debby is survived by her brother, Tom Hawkins Jr and wife Kathie; sisters, Pam Norton and husband Steve, Chris Morris and husband David, all of Beatrice, Monnie Goetz and husband Steve of Mount Washington, Kentucky, Liz DeBuhr and husband Dale of Beatrice; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Les Hawkins; and niece, Charlsie Morris.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, October 13, 2025 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Chaplain Sharon Schuster officiating. The family suggests casual, Husker or Chiefs attire. Inurnment will follow in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. There will be no viewing but a register book will be available to sign at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice on Sunday, October 12, 2025 from 2 to 8 PM with family greeting friends from 3 to 5 PM. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary & Crematory in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
