Betty Lou Lechner, 99 years of age, of Beatrice passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Beatrice Health and Rehabilitation. She was born on June 23, 1925 in Percival, Iowa to George and Cozzie (Handy) Johnson. Betty graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1942. She married Ervin Lechner on November 12, 1953. Ervin and Betty then moved to Hawaii where Erv was stationed in the Navy. Two years were spent there which was some of their happiest memories. They owned and operated Lechner’s Liquor in Beatrice for 15 years. Ervin and Betty could be found traveling and attending many flea markets where Betty collected and sold antiques. Later in life, she ran garage sales where she was known for her antiques. Betty’s favorite place to go was Playa Azul in Beatrice where the Lopez family and staff became her family. She enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with friends, vacations and camping.
Betty is survived by her children, Sharon Forrester, Cindy Luben, Pam Bauman and husband Mike, Leo Lechner; 10 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ervin on February 25, 1995; and brother, Elden Johnson and wife Dixie.
Graveside inurnment will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, September 20, 2024 at Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice with Pastor David Bigley officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice in care of the mortuary. Condolences may be left online at www.harmanwrightmortuary.com.
