Betty Mae (Rentschler) Lawrence, 85 years of age, of Diller passed away surrounded by her loving family Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center in Beatrice. She was born on October 5, 1934 in Deshler to John and Marie (Wasserman) Rentschler. Betty married Clyde Lawrence of Omaha on May 4, 1957 and together they raised 6 children and celebrated 53 years of marriage. They moved from the Omaha/Lincoln area to Diller in 1979 and owned the Eagle’s Nest Tavern. Betty worked at Beatrice Community Hospital until there came an opportunity to be a sign language para at Tri County Schools for many years. She also helped in Diller with summer reading program and VBS. Each child touched her heart in many ways. Betty was an avid book reader and loved puzzle games, crocheting afghans and was a huge Jeopardy fan. She was blessed to have a large family where her great grandchildren always called her “GG” and crowded around her for hugs and kisses. Betty always said their hugs re-charged her batteries!
Betty is survived by her children, Patrick and wife Annie of Lincoln, Connie Bures and husband Terry of Ellis, Cory Schraeder and husband Kenny of Beatrice, Colleen Lindley and husband Jerry of Plymouth, Lance and wife Michelle of Hanover, Kansas; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; brother, Clifford Rentschler of Omaha; sister, Ethel Boese of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Harriet Birkel of Omaha; brother-in-law, Larry Schultz of Elkhorn; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clyde on August 23, 2010; son, Mark and wife Patricia; brother, Richard Rentschler; sister-in-law, Janice Rentschler; and brothers-in-law, Delbert Boese, James Birkel and Jack Lawrence and wife Bonnie.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, January 9, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Diller with Pastor Mark Liscom officiating. Private inurnment will be held at a later date in the Prairie Home Cemetery near Diller. There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place but a register book will be available to sign from 9 AM to 8 PM Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and BCH Hospice in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
