Alan Gene Corey, 72 years of age, of Beatrice passed away Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Bryan Medical Center East in Lincoln. He was born on February 24, 1951 in Beatrice to Gene and Mary (O’Keefe) Corey. Alan grew up in Beatrice and lived with his family until he was 14. He then went to live at BSDC, until admission to Region V in 1978. Alan was very close with his family and spent a lot of time with them. Alan's father ran a second hand store in Beatrice and he often went to help his dad work there during his daytime hours when he was younger. He lived in a group home setting with Region V Beatrice since 1978. Alan helped with Traubel’s Popcorn Stand and was an active member of American Lutheran Church in Filley where he served on the board and helped hand out bulletins weekly. He enjoyed children, babies, woodworking, specifically making shelves, fishing, key chains, Special Olympics bowling, coffee club, telling stories, telling the state auditor how awesome the staff was at Region V and finally seeing the mountains in Colorado this past September.
Alan is survived by his sister, Judi Corey of Lincoln; nephews, Tracy Mullen and wife Heather of Holmesville, Cody Duffield of Lincoln; nieces, Heather Steel and husband Chad of Beatrice, Chelsea Duffield and fiancé Ben Semin of Lincoln; special friend, Trudy Kubicek of Crete; beloved girlfriend, Louise Barton of Crete; many great nieces and nephews; and all his extended family at Region V. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, January 5, 2024 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Chaplain Sharon Schuster officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. There will be no viewing but a register book will be available from 9 AM to 5 PM Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary & Crematory in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
