Walter E. Plegge Sr.

Walter E. Plegge Sr., 97 years of age, of Beatrice passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Beatrice Health and Rehabilitation in Beatrice. He was born on July 26, 1922 on a farm near Marysville, Kansas to August and Minnie (Pronske) Plegge. Walt grew up in and graduated high school from Marysville, Kansas and was a lifelong farmer. He also worked at Dempsters, Beatrice State Developmental Center and Store Kraft. Walt had a special place in his heart for his nephew Doug, who he helped farm. He married Margaret Eagan and to this union was born Leann and Walter Jr. Walt later married Dorothy Moslander on February 2, 1975. He enjoyed farming, gardening, sharing produce with people, coffee with friends, Nebraska Football, his dogs including his favorite bulldog, Ruffie, and most of all his wife and family.

Walt is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Leann Lord and husband Jim of Lincoln, Walter “Butch” Plegge Jr. and wife Kris of Camden Point, Missouri; step-children, Jesse Vetrovsky, Richy Vetrovsky, Larry Vetrovsky and wife Carol, Cindy Hartig and husband Jim, Shelley Huston, all of Beatrice; 5 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brothers, Ralph and Herbert, both of Marysville, Kansas; many nieces and nephews; and many friends at Beatrice Health and Rehab where he lived the past 9 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Latrice (Lord) Shaner; brothers, Ernie and wife Maxine, Arlo and wife Inez; and sisters-in-law, Diane Plegge and Wilma Plegge.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, November 21, 2019 at First Christian Church in Beatrice with Pastor David Bigley officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 PM with family greeting friends from 6 to 7 PM Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
