Roger passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018, in the ICU at Kearney Good Samaritan Hospital. He was a resident of Broken Bow Care and Rehabilitation Center in Broken Bow, Nebraska.
Roger was 66 years old. He was born April 6, 1952 at Lutheran Hospital in Beatrice. He graduated from Beatrice High School in 1970. He received an Associate's degree from Milford Technical College (now Southeast Community College) in Milford, Nebraska in 1972.
Roger began suffering epileptic seizures during his freshman year in high school. He was hired by the Square D Corporation in Lincoln following graduation from Milford. Beginning in his early 20’s, Roger’s health continued to decline.
During his life, Roger lived in several assisted living facilities (Hastings, Seward, and Crete) and several nursing homes (Adams, Fullerton, North Bend, and Edgar) before settling in Broken Bow, Nebraska.
Roger was supported by one of the best guardianship attorneys in the state, Andy Carothers of Beatrice. Roger’s guardians over the years included his mother, Rozella Schank, his father Arnold Schank, his brothers Roland Schank and Aaron Schank, and his best friend, Bruce Nieveen of Riverton, Utah.
Roger was preceded in death by his mother Rozella (August 1980) and his father Arnold (May 2001). He is survived by his brother Roland of Hawthorne, California, his sister Lindyne Elsener of Springdale, Arkansas (nephew, Jonathan Beeck), and his brother Aaron (wife, Karen). He will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery, Beatrice, adjacent to his parents.
Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice is managing the funeral arrangements. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice on Friday, June 15, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. Associate Pastor Leah Lawson will preside over the service. Viewing will take place one hour prior to the service at 10:00 A.M. in the narthex of the church. There will be no visitation at the mortuary. Following the service, a light lunch will be served in the church basement. Burial will take place at Evergreen Home Cemetery, following lunch.
