Olga (Shalla) Franzen

Olga Shalla Franzen, 97 of Beatrice, NE, passed from this life to be with her Heavenly Father on December 21, 2019 at the Homestead House in Beatrice. She was a life-long resident on a farm near Odell, Ne until she and her husband Floyd moved to Beatrice in 1985. Three children were born to this union:  Ken, Don and Margaret. She was born on April 13, 1922, as the seventh child of nine, to Tony and Matilda Shalla. Olga was preceded in death by Floyd, her parents and siblings.

After graduating from Odell High School, she taught in one room schoolhouses west of Odell and near DeWitt.  Olga and Floyd were married in Roswell, N.M. in 1944, then moved to Beatrice for two years, then to the family farm near Odell. During those years she enjoyed working in the food service department in the Odell School.  They were active members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Odell. While in Beatrice, Olga served in the food service department at Lincoln Elementary School.  She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her children, Ken (Jan) Franzen, Don (Debra) Franzen, and Margaret (Marvin) Dunn, four granddaughters, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 26, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Beatrice with Pastor Greg Stuckwisch officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 26, 2019 at the church. A memorial is suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Odell American Legion Aux.
