Melvin L. Miller

Melvin L. Miller, 86 years of age, of DeWitt passed away Monday, September 16, 2019 at his home. He was born on January 23, 1933 in Beatrice to Louie and Zella (Cornelius) Miller. Melvin graduated from Beatrice High School. He married Rosetta “Rosie” Wallman on December 25, 1952 at the Pickrell United Evangelical Church. Melvin served his country in the United States Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma from February 3, 1955 to February 1, 1957. He took over the family farm in 1956 and served on several boards including Pickrell Coop Elevator, Farmer’s Union, Holt Township, Pickrell School Board and was on the Board of Trustees for the Pickrell United Methodist Church. Melvin enjoyed farming, bowling, fishing, hunting, gardening, his dogs, building, learning and making things, tomatoes, asparagus, strawberries and watermelon.

Melvin is survived by his children, Judy Luschen of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jeannie Rasmussen and husband Terry of Plymouth, Jerry Miller and wife Pamela of DeWitt, Jimmy Miller and wife Denise of DeWitt, Joyce Miller of Beatrice; grandchildren, Terry Harms of Lincoln, Angela Gomez of Eugene, Oregon, Jenny Miller of Boston, Massachusetts, Suzanne Saunders, Jeff Jurgens and wife Jayme, Heidi Niemeyer and husband Dan, Josh Miller and wife Jen, all of Beatrice, Mariah Miller of Omaha, Evan and Nicholas Witulski of Beatrice; 15 great grandchildren; brothers, Roy Miller and wife Donna of Beatrice, Ray Miller of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law, Janice Lampe and husband Gerald, of Beatrice; brother-in-law, Max Kimmerling of Beatrice; and many nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosetta “Rosie” Miller on April 24, 2014; son-in-law, Delmar Luschen; granddaughter, Rebecca Newell; brother, Alvin Miller; and sisters-in-law, Georgia Miller, Viola Kimmerling, Evelyn Kramer and husband George.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, September 20, 2019 at the Pickrell United Methodist Church in Pickrell with Pastor Lila Bottolfsen officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery near Pickrell. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 PM with family greeting friends from 6 to 7:30 PM Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the Beatrice Humane Society in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
