Marilyn Ann (Blackwood) Rickers, 86, Odell, NE died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, September 16, 2019 at the Gold Crest Retirement Home in Adams, Nebraska. She was born October 17, 1932 and graduated from Odell High School in 1950 and attended teacher training the following summer in Fairbury. Marilyn married Vernon Rickers on July 7, 1951 in Lanham, KS and became a teacher and taught in several country schools in the Odell/Diller/Wymore area and after that worked for Umphenour Market and the West Court Dairy Queen in Beatrice.
Marilyn and Vernon lived on the family farm until Vernon’s death last year, but a few months later she fell and required more care, so she moved to Gold Crest Retirement Home in Adams where she resided except for hospital visits. Marilyn enjoyed collecting antique clocks and other collectables and was a faithful member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Odell.
Survivors include daughters, Suann Brown and husband Steven of Frisco, TX and Tanya Malchow and husband LaVerne of Beatrice; son, Kent Rickers of Greeley, CO; 6 grandchildren, Erin Sokolik, Seth Malchow, Leah Malchow, Justin Rickers, Sean Rickers and Stacy Rickers; great-grandchildren, Samantha Rickers, Brandon Rickers, Brennan Sokolik and Jackson Rickers; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Anna (Beckman) Blackwood; son, Kevin Rickers; daughter, Lisa Rickers, and sister, Julia.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Odell with Pastor Greg Stuckwisch officiating. Burial will be in the Odell Cemetery. A memorial is established to Odell Cemetery or to the family’s choice. Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
