Lola Berniece (Thompson) Armstrong

Lola Berniece (Thompson) Armstrong, 97 years of age, of Lincoln passed away Friday, December 21, 2018 at Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams. She was born on September 25, 1921 in Filley to JP and Freda (Thomsen) Thompson. Lola grew up in the Filley area and graduated from Filley High School in 1938. She attended Peru State Teacher’s College where she earned a teaching certificate. Lola married Lawrence Armstrong on August 5, 1941 in Lewiston and they moved to Lincoln in 1958. She taught school for 5 years, was a clerk at the Filley Post Office and worked for State Farm Insurance for 18 ½ years retiring in 1976. Lola was a member of the Filley United Methodist Church, Yankee Hill Extension Club, Ambassador Auxiliary, State Farm Retired Club and a former Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed gardening, watching sports, embroidery, camping and fishing.

Lola is survived by her brother, Lloyd Thompson and wife Carol of Port St. Lucie, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lawrence Armstrong on April 27, 2001; and sister, Lucille Armstrong.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Pastor LuRae Hallstrom officiating. Interment will follow in the Filley Cemetery near Filley. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 PM Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the Filley Cemetery in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
