Joyce L. (Bales) Maatsch

Joyce L. (Bales) Maatsch, 74 years of age, of Beatrice passed away at her home Saturday, January 20, 2018. She was born on June 25, 1943 in Beatrice to Richard and Dorothy (Mills) Bales. Joyce graduated from Beatrice High School in 1961. She married Johnny Maatsch on December 22, 1961 at the First Christian Church in Beatrice. Joyce lived in Beatrice most of her life and worked several places including Jack and Jill, Price Chopper, Parkview Care Center, Plaza Gift Gallery and as a nanny for a local family. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star and the Shrine Widows. Joyce and her husband traveled many different places for parades including their annual trip to the Central States Shrine Association. She enjoyed reading, word searches, puzzles, cooking, baking and time with her grandchildren especially the week vacation she had with them at her home.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Jonni Brown and husband Jim of Newton, Kansas; son, Jamie Maatsch and wife Carol of Beatrice; grandchildren, Elizabeth Brown, Erik Brown, Christina Maatsch, Hiliary Cary and husband Jordie, Allen Maatsch and wife Hillary; 6 great grandchildren; brother, Richard Bales and wife Donna of Lincoln; step-mother, Pearl Bales of Beatrice; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Johnny; son, Jeffrey; and a great granddaughter.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, January 26, 2018 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Rev. David Bigley officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. A register book will be available from 9 AM to 8 PM with family greeting friends from 6 to 7 PM Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Eastern Star Home in Fremont in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
