John "Crazy John" Nispel Obituary

John “Crazy John” Raymond Nispel, 73 years of age, of Liberty, Missouri, formerly of Plymouth, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at the NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on December 7, 1944 in Beatrice to Raymond and Dorothy (Bengston) Nispel. John was raised on a farm northwest of Plymouth. He was baptized and confirmed, and attended St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and School in Plymouth. John graduated from Plymouth High School in 1963. He worked in the construction trades as a member of the carpenter and boiler maker unions. John had special mechanical and welding skills. The Cooper Nuclear Plant in Brownville, large dams around the U.S., hundreds of missile silos in 5 states and the huge General Motors facility in Kansas City, Kansas were some of the projects that John worked on. He worked in maintenance at the Ford Motor Plant in Claycomo, Missouri until his retirement. John enjoyed motorcycles and got the name “Crazy John” for his riding antics. He was a collector especially of tractors, guns and knives. John always liked a good hunt with his dad, son, son-in-law, grandsons and nephews whether in Nebraska or Alaska.

John is survived by 2 children, Sean and wife Stephanie of Clear Lake, Washington, Stephanie Bailey and husband Randy of Wasilla, Alaska, and their mother, Mary Beth Doane of Camano Island, Washington; step-children, Shane Helmig and wife Cindy of Springfield, Missouri, Schelly Brosch and husband Bill of Kearney, Missouri, and their mother, Cindy Nispel of Liberty, Missouri; grandchildren, Zane and Chase Nispel, Gus and Rowdy Bailey; step-grandchildren, Micah Disbrow and husband Mark, Bailey and Riley Hixson, Gavin and Lane Helmig; step-great grandchild, Anaiah Disbrow; sisters, Cathi Niemeyer and husband Darrel of Lincoln, Suzie Grummert and husband Dave of Plymouth, Cindy Riens and husband Dan of North Platte; aunt, Ella Nispel, uncle, Lee Copple; and a niece, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant brother, Robert.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Pastor Fred Berger officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery near Plymouth. Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 PM with family greeting friends from 6 to 7 PM Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Plymouth. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
