Glen Barnard Obituary

Glen A. Barnard, 100 years of age, of Beatrice passed away Thursday, January 9, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice. He was born on March 7, 1919 near Beatrice to Roy and Susie (Essam) Barnard. Glen attended Beatrice High School through the 9th grade when his father got sick and he started helping on the family farm. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a lifelong farmer. Glen married Veloura Sapp on May 3, 1946 at the First Christian Church in Beatrice. He was the longest living member of the church and was a member of the American Legion and VFW. Glen enjoyed farming and spending time with his grandchildren.

Glen is survived by his son, Richard “Dick” and wife Patty of Liberty; grandchildren, Kerri Jones and husband Mike, Craig Barnard and wife Traci, Curt Barnard and wife Deann; great grandchildren, Carley Duensing and husband Cole, Michaela and Mallee Jones, Tyson, Regan, Addison, Avery, Reece and Baylor Barnard; great great grandchild, Rhett Duensing; sisters-in-law, Lucille Sapp of Ashland, Rose Sapp of Omaha, Zelma Drake of Norfolk; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Veloura on February 27, 2008; great grandchildren, Drew Barnard, Madison Barnard; sister, Marjorie Norton and husband Robert; sister-in-law, Irene Brubaker and husband Guy; and brothers-in-law, Bill Sapp, Dean Sapp, Lee Sapp and wife Helene, Ray Sapp and wife Lenora and Kenny Drake.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, January 13, 2020 at the First Christian Church in Beatrice with Pastor David Bigley officiating. Interment with military rites by the United States Navy and the Beatrice American Legion will follow in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 PM with family greeting friends from 3 to 4 PM Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the church in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
