Eleanor Elisabeth (Overbeck) Vicars

Eleanor Elisabeth (Overbeck) Vicars, 96 years of age, of Martell passed away Friday, December 6, 2019 at Beatrice Health and Rehabilitation in Beatrice. She was born on October 1, 1923 at Firth to Ernest and Minna Annie (Huls) Overbeck. Eleanor was currently living with her son Steven at his home in Martell. She was baptized on October 21, 1923 and confirmed on March 17, 1940, both at Christ Lutheran Church near Pickrell. Eleanor’s confirmation verse was Psalm 103:1-2. A lifelong homemaker, she enjoyed car racing, bowling, camping, traveling and yard work. Eleanor especially enjoyed growing all types of flowers and had a hard time choosing just one as her favorite. She had happy memories of working as a housekeeper at Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center and as a housekeeper and painter at Regency Nursing Home in Pittsburg, Kansas. Eleanor was proud of keeping a neat and tidy home and was fond of saying: “a place for everything and everything in its place”.

Eleanor is survived by her sons, Steven of Martell, Dennis and wife Diane of Pickrell; 8 grandchildren; many great, great great and great great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Jerry and Phyllis McNamee and Gaynelle Ideus. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lester on March 6, 2002; sons, Rick on May 6, 1995, Bernie on September 17, 2005; granddaughter, Kristin (Vicars) Woodyard; sisters, Esther Overbeck, Irene Morrison; brother, Rinehard Overbeck; and special family friend, Doris Reed.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Christ Lutheran Church near Pickrell with Pastors Heather Brown and Dave Larsen officiating. Interment will follow in the Christ Lutheran Church cemetery near Pickrell. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 AM Wednesday at the church. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 PM with family greeting friends from 6 to 7 PM Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the church in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
