Charles Edward Day, 82, Beatrice, died Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Center.  He was born March 22, 1928 on the family farm near Wymore, Nebraska and moved to Beatrice in 1942.   He attended Barneston High School through 10th grade and then graduated from Beatrice High School in 1945.  He served his country in the Air Force 1950 to 1954.  He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.  After serving he returned to the Beatrice area and farmed until 1993, when he moved to Parkview Village and to Good Samaritan Center in 2001.  He was a lifetime member of the Bitting Norman Post #27 of the American Legion, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Eagles Aerie # 531 Beatrice, the Gage County Historical Society, 10th Division Association, Nebraska National Guard, Beatrice and a former member of the Civil Air Patrol.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beatrice. 

Survivors include his nieces Judith Reid of New York, NY, Lynn Long, Lincoln, NE; great-nieces, Tiffany Patrick and husband Shannon of Lincoln, and Haley Reid of Dover, NH; two great-geat-nephews, Mike Hoppe and Jacob Patrick of Lincoln; great-great-niece, Caitlin Hoppe of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Franklin and Mary Elizabeth (Davis) Day; grandparents, William and Sarah Day and Thomas and Rose (Postaway) Davis; sister, Anita Lang and an infant sister; several aunts and uncles.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beatrice with Fr. Rudy Oborny, officiating.  The body will lie in state at the Harman-Wright Mortuary, Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, Liberty.  A memorial has been established to the Disabled American Veterans with the mortuary in charge.  A guestbook is available online at www.harmanwrightmortuary.com for signatures and messages of condolence.  Harman-Wright Mortuary, Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
