Vernice Erlene (Diekmann) Griffeth

Vernice E. (Diekmann) Griffeth, 90 years of age, of Beatrice passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at The Monarch in Lincoln. She was born on December 22, 1926 northeast of Plymouth to Herman and Louise (Hueske) Diekmann. Vernice was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church east of Plymouth. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1945. Vernice worked at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln before marrying Lewis Griffeth in the fall of 1946 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Wymore. She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren. Vernice was a member of the Dorcas Society, LWML and Social Club. Vernice also enjoyed reading, crocheting, sewing, baking and cooking. She was a cook at the PEO Home for over 20 years.                  

Vernice is survived by 3 sons, Gary of Lincoln, Gene of Beatrice, Jody and wife Melony of Dallas, Texas; daughter-in-law, Renee Griffeth; 9 grandchildren, Heidi Weinert and husband Greg, Dr. Angie Fisher and husband Jason, Jill Wenzl and husband Bill, Kristal Shestak and husband Kip, Jenny Griffeth, Tiffany Griffeth, Brett Griffeth and wife Jennie, Jared Griffeth, Matthew Griffeth; 5 step grandchildren, Josh, Jordan, Justin, Ayden, Ava; 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Verlene VanLaningham of Beatrice, Leola Batterman of Salina, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ricky; 6 brothers; and 2 sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, November 13, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Beatrice with Rev. Dr. Dirk Reek officiating. Interment will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery east of Plymouth. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 AM Monday in the church basement. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 PM with family greeting friends from 3 to 4 PM Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. The body will also lie in state one hour preceding services on Monday. Memorials are suggested to the American Breast Cancer Foundation in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
