Ruth E. (Backer) Meyer

Ruth E. (Backer) Meyer, 90 years of age, of Beatrice, formerly of Plymouth passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice. She was born on June 7, 1926 near Alexandria to John and Iona (Cane) Backer. Ruth grew up 1 mile north of Alexandria. She graduated from Alexandria High School in 1943. Ruth married Maynard Meyer on June 16, 1946 in Alexandria and then moved to Plymouth. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Ladies Aid of the Church. Ruth was a member of the Jefferson County Art Guild, a charter member of the Peppy Pioneer’s Extension Club and volunteered with the Jefferson County 4-H Club. She enjoyed painting, sewing, arts and crafts, selling Avon and especially spending time with family.

Ruth is survived by a daughter, Darcy Ryan of Lincoln; 2 granddaughters, Tammy Midgett and husband Josh, Becky Kruse and husband Bryan; 4 great grandchildren, Camden and Carter Midgett, Emma and Ethan Kruse; daughter-in-law, Karen Bergmeier and husband Daryl of Plymouth; and several nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Maynard on February 3, 2013; daughter, Diane; 2 sons, Dann and Donovan; 2 brothers, Jack, Charles; 4 sisters, Marcella Mussman, Loraine Bartruff, Paula Borst, Doris Coonrod; and a grandson, Robert “Bobby” Ryan.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plymouth with Pastor Fred Berger officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery west of Plymouth. A family prayer service will be held at 10 AM Tuesday at the church. Visitation will be held from noon to 5 PM Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice and from noon to 8 PM Monday, March 27, 2017 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Plymouth. Memorials are suggested to the church with the church elders in charge. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice and Plymouth in charge of arrangements.
