Mildred L. (Craig) Stevens

Mildred L. (Craig) Stevens, 91 years of age, of Blue Springs, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015. She was born on May 2, 1924 in Blue Springs to Clayton and Alta (Scott) Craig. Mildred grew up in the Wymore/Blue Springs area. She married Roy Stevens, Jr. on August 25, 1938 in Missouri and to this union was born 8 children. Mildred worked in housekeeping at the Beatrice State Developmental Center in Beatrice for many years. She spent the last 16 years working as a dedicated foster grandmother at Stoddard Elementary in Beatrice. Mildred was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Beatrice. She enjoyed ceramics, crafts, camping, boating, canning, baking, gardening and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Mildred is survived by 3 daughters, Elizabeth Parde and husband Dennis of Blue Springs, Mary Jurgens and husband Lyle of Beatrice, Cathy Rakes and special friend Larry Zimmerman of Blue Springs; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Neva Fisher and husband Duane of Nehawka; 2 daughters-in-law, Jeanette Stevens of Virginia, Sandy Stevens of Blue Springs; son-in-law, Jack Hurley of Fairbury; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roy Stevens, Jr. in 1989; 3 sons, Roy “Steve” Stevens, William “Pat” Stevens and wife Jeanie, Raymond “Ray” Stevens; 2 daughters, Mildred “Sis” Kagy and husband Phillip, Julie Hurley; granddaughter, Robin Stevens; great grandsons, Damon Swarthout, Brandon Kagy; 10 brothers; and 1 sister.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at the Church of the Nazarene in Beatrice with Pastor Rob Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow at the Church of the Brethren Cemetery near Holmesville. Visitation will be held from noon to 9 PM Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. A memorial is established to the church in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
