Michael H. Hofacre Jr., 83, Beatrice, went to be with his beloved wife Shirley, Friday, April 10, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice.  He was born November 27, 1931 in Beatty, KS. Mike served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He married Shirley Wathor on March 17, 1951 in Marysville, KS. Mike worked as a truck driver his entire working life and retired from Ward Transport after 35 years.  He was a member of the Cornerstone Church, V.F.W. and the American Legion Club all of Beatrice. Mike loved hunting, fishing and camping with his family in his younger years. He was an avid Husker fan, loving to watch and listen to Nebraska football, men’s and women’s basketball, and women’s volleyball. He and Shirley were season ticket holders to Nebraska football for over 30 years, rarely missing a home game and attending 3 bowl games. Most recently he loved spending time with family, working in his garden, and enjoying coffee and conversation with friends.

Survivors include his daughters, Pat Wineinger and husband Darrell of North Platte, NE, Kathy Houseman of Beatrice; grandchildren, Jay Wineinger and wife Dena of Omaha, Jamee Wineinger of Omaha, Kendra Houseman of Lincoln, Kent Houseman and friend Karen of Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Caleb Bjerke and Hope Wineinger; brother, Bill Hofacre and wife Janet of CA; brother-in-law, Melvern Brod of Beatrice; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents, Michael and Nellie (Wilson) Hofacre; son-in-law, Kent Houseman; half-brother, Eldon Turner; parents-in-law, Harry and Opal Wathor; sisters-in-law, Harriet Brod, Janet Scheetz; brothers-in-law, Larry Wathor and Jerry Scheetz.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Cornerstone Lutheran Church, 9th and Elk Street, Beatrice with Pastor Doyle Karst officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice. Visitation will be held at Harman-Wright Mortuary on Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A memorial is established to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. www.harmanwrightmortuary.com  Harman-Wright Mortuary Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
