Mary Ann Emily Stohs, 85, Beatrice, NE died Friday January 26, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, NE. She was born October 27, 1932 at Hanover, KS to Henry B. and Anna (Licht) Meyer. She was baptized November 2, 1932 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hanover, KS by Rev. Walter Mahler. She was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bremen, KS, April 14, 1946 by Pastor A.C. Traugott.
Mary Ann married Ivan Stohs on August 16, 1953, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bremen, KS, by Pastor Arnold Oldehoeft. They farmed by Bremen for a little over a year, then moved to Beatrice, NE. Mary Ann was employed by Bremen Farmers Insurance Co. before her marriage, after moving to Beatrice, she worked for a short time at Croy’s Drive Inn, Fidelity Finance for several years, and 28 years at St. Paul Lutheran Church as office manager until her retirement. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, she served as treasurer for many years, was a member of the Ladies Aid, Dorcas, Choir, and Social Club. She taught Sunday school for several years. She served as Secretary for Branch 445 of AAL for 14 years and was a 4-H leader for many years. After retiring, she volunteered for many years for Orphan Grain Train and Beatrice Senior Center. Mary Ann enjoyed her family and friends, loved cooking, playing cards, square dancing, camping and music.
Survivors include her husband, Ivan; son, Terry Stohs of Gretna, NE, daughters, Lori (Van) Shotzman of Idaho Falls, ID, Shari (Terry) Brauch, of Beatrice; grandchildren, Christopher (Brandee) Stohs of Clive, IA, Angela (Brian) Rauner of Lincoln, NE, Marcy (Brian) Swanson of Portland, OR, Jennifer (Jesse) Thompson, Beatrice, Tyler (Courtney) Brauch of Beatrice, and Breanna Stohs of Gretna; step-grandchildren, Chelsea (Michael) Augustine of Roca, NE, Ashley Rivera of Omaha; great-grandchildren, Sam, Abbigail, and Connor Stohs, Preston, Rylee, Cameron, and Blake Rauner, Shelby Swanson, and Brighten Brauch; step-great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Noah Augustine; sisters-in-law, Gladys Ehm of Philipsburg, KS, Dorothy Meyer of Sun City, AZ; brother-in-law, Marvin Beckmann of Bremen; special friends, Peggy Stohs and Jennifer Rivera and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by, parents, Henry and Anna (Licht) Meyer; parents-in-law, Emil and Frieda (Riggert) Stohs; brother, Roger Meyer, brothers-in-law, Gerhard and wife Ethel Stohs, Clifford and wife Lyla Stohs, Merlin and wife Geraldine Stohs, and Bill Ehm; sisters-in-law, Nadine Stohs, Lucinda Beckmann and Valora Stohs.
Pallbearers: Christopher Stohs, Brian Rauner, Brian Swanson, Jesse Thompson, Tyler Brauch, Michael Augustine, Preston Rauner, and Sam Stohs.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Beatrice with Rev. Dr. Dirk Reek officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in the church basement. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. The body will also lie in state one hour preceding services at the church on Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice with the mortuary in charge.
