Marvin L. Philippi

Marvin L. Philippi, 76, Beatrice, formerly of Blue Springs, NE, went to his heavenly home on Monday, February 16, 2015 surrounded by his family with love and support on this journey. He was born August 22, 1938 on a farm east of Blue Springs, NE. He was baptized and confirmed in May 1959 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Wymore, NE. He attended country schools and the Holmesville School. He served in the National Guard for six years.  He worked for several companies before hiring onto the Burlington Northern in 1963 where he worked until retirement in 1995. He married Ardyce Gierhan on September 6, 1958 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Gresham, NE. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Wymore, NE where he held many offices.

He enjoyed gardening and sharing his bounty (especially popcorn), took great care of his lawn and had a love for his Red Bud trees. He loved being outdoors and cutting wood. He taught all his kids and grandkids to drive. He loved family and was a much loved Papa who loved to sing karaoke and dance.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Ardyce Philippi of Beatrice, NE; children, Randall Philippi and wife Bev of Lincoln, NE, Mark Philippi and wife Joni of Hastings, NE, Melody Aden and husband Rod of Beatrice, NE, Dawn Jurgens and husband Steve of Filley, NE, Amy Philippi, of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Katie & Doug Brandhof of Mitchellville, IA, Betsy Philippi of Lincoln, NE, Caitlin Philippi and fiancé Pedro Gabriel, Mikel Philippi, Joel Philippi, all of Hastings, NE, Jackson, Carter and Olivia Aden of Beatrice, NE, Callie & Jim Higgins of Lincoln, NE, Taylor Jurgens of Beatrice, NE, Silas, Caryss and True Jurgens of Filley, NE; great grandchildren, Mathias Higgins of Lincoln, NE and Everlee Brandhof of Mitchellville, IA; brothers, Clair “Tom” and wife Beverly of Beatrice, Larry and wife Martha of Topeka, KS, Jim and wife Kathy of Tecumseh, Terry and wife Alice of Denton and Dan and wife Vicki of Beatrice; one sister, Thelma Ball and special friend Wayne Anderson of Wymore; sisters-in-law, Marcia Philippi of Beatrice, Wilma Philippi of Central City, NE; sister-in-law, Sandra Sukstorf and husband Delbert of Fremont, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Clara Belle (Weinman) Philippi; 2 brothers, Robert and Gerald Philippi; son-in-law, Troy Busboom; grandson, Isaiah Jurgens; and 2 nephews, Andy Sukstorf and Adam Philippi.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday February 21, 2015 at St. Peter’s Lutheran church, Wymore, NE with Pastor Tyler Hauptmeier officiating. Family prayer service 10:15 a.m. Burial will be in the Blue Springs Cemetery, Blue Springs, NE. Visitation will be held at the Harman-Wright Mortuary 9am-9pm Friday with the family greeting friends from 5 pm – 7 pm and one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday. Memorials are established to St. Peter's Lutheran Church with the mortuary in charge..
