Lloyd H. Balderson

Lloyd H. Balderson, 91 years of age, of Cortland, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice. He was born on December 20, 1924 near Cortland on a farm that his grandfather homesteaded in 1872. Lloyd was the son of Elmer and Anna (DeVries) Balderson, the fourth of five children. He attended rural District 64 “Balderson School” and graduated from Cortland High School in 1942. Lloyd served his country during WWII in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. He then attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for 2 years. Lloyd worked for the Bureau of Reclamation in Indianola for 2 years. He married Dorothy Stoller in 1950 in McCook and moved to Cortland in 1951 where he farmed the homestead until retirement. Lloyd was a member of the Cortland American Legion Post #253 for over 70 years and the Cortland Masonic Lodge. Lloyd had side jobs helping to build homes and working for the USDA and later as a bin site supervisor. He enjoyed working on his farm equipment, tractors and cars.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy; children, Steve and wife Miriam of Fort Collins, Colorado, Victorine Koch and husband Tom of Clyde, Kansas, Stan and wife Dona of Palmyra, Beth Ramirez and husband Alfonso of Dallas, Texas, Ed of Cortland; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; and sister, Doris Boyce of Boise, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert and Gerald; and a sister, Letha Hilgenkamp.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Cortland United Church in Cortland with Pastor Casey Karges officiating. Inurnment with military rites will follow in the Highland Center Cemetery southwest of Cortland. There will be no visitation but a register book will be available from 9 AM to 5 PM Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Cortland United Church. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
