Lawrence "Rick" Riekenberg Obituary

Lawrence F. “Rick” Riekenberg, 84, Beatrice died Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Beatrice Health & Rehabilitation. He was born March 8, 1933 at Bremen, KS. Lawrence married Beulah Mae L. Saathoff on November 16, 1952 at the Hollenberg, KS Lutheran Church. He served in the Korean War from 1953 to 1955, spending 1 ½ years in Korea. After returning home in 1955 Lawrence worked for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads over 40 years.  He also worked part-time for Daubendiek TV for many years.  Lawrence was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Beatrice and served on the School Board, Evangelism Committee, was a Trustee, ushered for many years and was a member of the social club.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1077 and a member of the American Legion Post 27 for over 55 years. He enjoyed his family, gardening, camping, campground hosting, square dancing, and traveling to see family and friends. Lawrence was a man of many talents, including home remodel and repair, car maintenance and repair, landscaping, and hanging Christmas lights on the house.  He was a loving and committed husband, father, family man and friend to many.

Lawrence is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beulah Mae; daughters, Cynthia Irvin and husband Jesse of Frankton, Indiana, RaJean May and special friend Douglas Dickson of Beatrice; five grandchildren and spouses; 16 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; sister, Verna Marie Dusin of Phillipsburg, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Anna (Lohse) Riekenburg; infant daughter, Charlotte; nine sisters; and two brothers.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Beatrice with Rev. Dr. Dirk Reek officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice with military rites by the Bitting-Norman American Legion Post 27 and the National Guard Honor Guard. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in the church basement. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2018 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. The body will also lie in state one hour preceding services at the church on Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice with the mortuary in charge.
