John W. Yohe

June 25, 1935 ~ June 15, 2015 (age 79) 79 Years Old

John W. Yohe 79 of Filley, NE, passed peacefully surrounded by family, Monday, June 15, 2015 at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Society. He was born at the Beatrice Mennonite Hospital on June 25, 1935 to Harold and Martha (Jones) Yohe. He graduated from Filley High School in 1952. John married Beth Geer May 29, 1955 at Filley Methodist Church and farmed in the Filley area for more than 50 years. He operated Yohe Farm Supply from 1972 to 2015; sold Kent, Gooch and Hubbard feed; NC+ seed; Grasshopper and Dixon mowers; and was a Hillsboro trailer dealer. Faith was very important to John and he was a member of the Filley United Methodist Church for more than 70 years and the Filley Community Church until his death. He served in the National Guard and was a member of the American Legion in Liberty.

John was a dedicated volunteer fireman and was the first president of the Filley Volunteer Fireman’s Association and organized their first pancake feed and chicken bbq. He served on the Filley Cons. School Board for 12 years and was president for 4 years, president of Southeast Nebraska Livestock Feeder Association, president of the Gage County 4-H Board and was a leader of the Filley Top Notchers 4-H club for many years. In 1970, John was awarded the Gage County Outstanding Young Farmer Award and his family was also honored to be the WOW-TV (Channel 6) Farm Family of the Week. 

John and Beth loved hosting family gatherings, spending time with friends and building relationships with their customers.  The grandkids especially enjoyed “farm camp” at grandpa’s farm.

John loved sports and was an avid bowler and a volleyball referee for more than 20 years.  He was a huge Husker fan and also enjoyed watching the Royals and the Atlanta Braves.

Survivors include his wife, Beth Yohe of Filley; daughters, LaRita Weber and husband Duane of Humboldt; Lindy Stewart and husband Dave of Lincoln; Amy Wallman and husband Russell of Filley; Jeanie Warner and husband John of Salina, KS; grandchildren, Angela Waters and husband Richard of San Antonio, TX; Jill Howard and husband Josh of Salina, KS; Stephanie Weber and fiancé Michael Sutch of Carlton, OR; Courtney Lazzo and husband Matt of Wichita, KS; Jordan Wallman of Hastings; Jaycie and Josh Warner of Salina, KS; Brett and Jack Stewart of Lincoln, NE; great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Richard Waters V, and Elizabeth and Luke Howard; sister, Carolyn Foss and husband LaVern: sister-in-law, Nellie Behrens; many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Jerome and Edna Hunt; brother-in-law, Harvey Behrens.

Funeral Services will be held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Harman-Wright Mortuary Chapel in Beatrice with Chaplain Sharon Schuster officiating.  Visitation will be Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family greeting friends Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.   A memorial will be to the family’s choice with Dennis & Doreen Remmers in charge.
